The key to good charting is simplifying. It is relatively straight forward to turn a photo into a chart with a computer package. The problem is you end up with a big chart with dozens of colours scattered seemingly randomly - resulting in tedious lengthy stitching. If you have to purchase a skein of each colour the whole project becomes very expensive. When we at Rose Alma create a chart we focus on creating a quality image that is as small as we can manage and with as few colours as we can get it down to, as well as reducing the "scattered colour" effect computer programs give.
Warning - designing takes a long time. The charges may appear high but when worked out on an hourly basis our designer receives somewhere between $5 and $10 per hour. As a result this service is "low priority" and may take several months. The continuation of this service is regulary reviewed.

| Stage1: | a. Scan in Photo or Image file. |
| b.Tidy up obvious minor blemishes (for seriously damaged photos you can separately purchase our photo repair/retouch service - Retsep Digital Services). | |
| c. Investigate Cropping options - this may involve posting choices onto our Web Site or emailing to you (you may have definite ideas for cropping the image or you may wish to leave it up to us). | |
| Stage2: | Minimise size of Chart (number of stitches wide), while maintaining image integrity. |
| Stage3: | Minimise the number of colours, while maintaining image integrity. Number of colours will typically be below 50. | Deluxe Package (recommended) - Price $85 |
| Stage4: | Reduction of colours by the combination of similar shades. Our designer will take the time to combine the obvious colours. This usually significantly reduces the number of colours in the final chart, and hence lowers thread cost for you, as well as makes stitching easier. Number of colours will typically be below 30. | Elite Package - Price $105 |
| Stage5: | Full design process close to what is carried out to produce a commercial kit. More time is spent on the Stage 4 process to produce a chart with fewer colours and reducing the occurance of scattered colours(more blocked). |
